The Winning Recipe in Collegiate Athletics

The Winning Recipe in Collegiate Athletics

Villanova Men’s Basketball and Alabama Football win another title. Bama’s success over the recent years speaks for itself and Nova has now won 2 of the last 3 titles championships in College Basketball. UCONN continues to be, and will always remain, dominant in Women’s Basketball under Geno Auriemma.

The recipe for their success is quite simple and an easy study. Why do they continue to dominate? Why is their culture the best in their sport? Why are they the last ones playing at the end of their seasons time and time again?

Easy. Look at the type of athlete Nick Saban, Jay Wright, and Geno recruit. They are all GOOD kids. Clean, classy, intelligent and kids who WANT to play. A Bama, Nova, and Husky athlete is always the hungriest and most humble. They want more! They are never satisfied until they hoist the trophy, and bleed for their team. Examples – Minkah Fitzpatrick, Jalen Brunson, and Dianna Taurasi. These athletes are killers. Dominant. Hungry at all times and yet always remaining to stay humble throughout the process.

It is said that Nick Saban recruits the mother, not the kid. The mother tells him all about the kid and that’s what he wants.

Jay Wright dominates the Mid – Atlantic region and continually finds the best fit for his program and culture right in his backyard. He’ll sign the 50th best recruit in the country over the #1 if it’s a better fit for his team.

Geno Auriemma recruits down to his 12th lady. He not only wants gamers, but also practice players who will make his starters that much better. In most cases, UCONN’s scout team could be a top 15 program in the country.

So take a look around leagues, campuses and locker rooms and study the winners. Yes, a star is important and may exist, but it’s the makeup and character of the athlete and overall strength and unity of the team that matters the most!
